Dr. Hug is the Co-Director of the Electric Energy Systems Group (EESG) at Carnegie Mellon University, the leader of the thrust area on Transmission & Distribution Management in the SRC Smart Grid Research Center and a member of the Carnegie Mellon Electricity Industry Center (CEIC).
Dr. Hug’s research focuses on control and optimized operation of the electric power system to enable a renewable energy future. She develops control schemes based on predictive control to overcome the variability and intermittency of renewable generation, investigates the usage of power flow control devices to increase the transfer capacity of the existing transmission system and explores how to optimally integrate and use storage devices in the power system.
