Dr. Keith Florig is Senior Research Engineer in the Department of Engineering and Public Policy at Carnegie Mellon University, where he conducts research on public policy issues involving health, safety, environment, and security risks. His areas of specialization include risk assessment, risk communication, radiation protection, and environment and development. His research has been published in the journals Science, Risk Analysis, Health Physics, and Environmental Science and Technology, among others.

Since 1996, Dr. Florig has coordinated research involving China for the Center for the Integrated Study of the Human Dimensions of Global Change. In collaboration with colleagues at Tsinghua University’s School of Public Policy & Management, Renmin University’s School of Environment and Natural Resources, and other Chinese institutions, he has conducted research on the health impacts of air pollution in China, the management of pollution emissions from Chinese industry, environmental risk perception, and the factors that influence China’s choice of energy technologies.

Dr. Florig serves on the Public Policy and Nonionizing Radiation Committees of the National Council on Radiation Protection and Measurements. He is also a member of the Society for Risk Analysis

Dr. Florig holds degrees in Engineering and Public Policy (Ph.D.), Nuclear Science and Engineering (M.S.), Instrumentation (M.S.), and Physics (B.S.), all from Carnegie Mellon. Before joining the CMU faculty in 1996, Dr. Florig worked for six years in Washington, DC at the U.S. Arms Control and Disarmament Agency and at Resources for the Future.
