I was just thinking that it would be a good idea to have some numbers on energy, and water savings, and emissions reductions for different solutions we're proposing, especially for ideas that involve people outside the EPP Green Team. For example, wouldn't it be more effective at EPP seminars to post next to the compost bag some stats on the benefits of composting vs throwing out trash since we're asking people to go the extra step to lift the lid to the compost comtainer :)? And, if we can get an environmentally-friendly catering list going, we will need to educate people about the numbers behind the rating system. For example, if one of our criteria for a "green " caterer to receive a 4-star rating is that they use ingredients from local farms, it might be nice to share a few statistics on the greenhouse gas emissions saved by buying food produced in the next town over rather than trucking it from across the country or world. I know finding reliable life cycle numbers on every little thing can be time-consuming, but we all operate in different areas of expertise related to the environment in EPP. Maybe we can informally plan to bring to the next meeting any reliable numbers we've found in our research or in our spare time on water, energy, and emission tradeoffs for the key alternatives we're considering now (plastic vs washing silverware, cloth vs paper napkins, composting vs landfill, shutting down computers at night vs keeping them in sleep mode, etc). It would be great to start a discussion at the next meeting. Just a thought.

It just occured to me that we may be able to get students to volunteer to collect recycling at events where there are no bins. We could call them Green Ambassadors or something. This might be something to do for the picnic, camp epp, etc.
