Jeremy directs the Design Decisions Laboratory, which develops theories and tools to understand and assist decision-making in design and product development. The group is interested in the preferences and economics that drive design tradeoff decisions as well as the impact of those decisions on public and private stakeholders. Research falls into three primary thrust areas:

  1. Systems Optimization:Develop fundamental knowledge and new methods for multidisciplinary design and complex systems optimization;
  2. Design for Market Systems:Measure and predict consumer choice and firm behavior in the marketplace to optimize engineering systems for profitability; and
  3. Green Design & Environmental Policy:Study the effects of economics and public policy on design decisions and the resulting environmental impact of those decisions.

Jeremy co-directs the Vehicle Electrification Group, which studies electrified vehicles including hybrid electric vehicles, plug-in electric vehicles, and battery electric vehicles.  Research thrust areas include:

  1. Life cycle economic, environmental, and security implications of electrified vehicles
  2. Battery technology development, design, and evaluation
  3. Vehicle systems assessment, optimization, and integration with the electrical grid
  4. Public policy evaluation

Jeremy is also a member of the Green Design Institute, with research focus areas in environmental management, energy and the environment, sustainable infrastructure, and life cycle assessment.
